Andrea Hughes, Manager of Davis Gregory’s Injury Claims department, has recently concluded a £multi-million settlement of a claim by a young man who was aged 15 when he was crossing the road and knocked over by an uninsured car driver.
The young man suffered very serious brain and other injuries, and will need 24-hour care for the rest of his life.
Andrea said: “this was an incredibly complicated claim for many reasons. It was clear that our client was partly to blame for the accident, but his brain injuries meant he could not tell me himself what happened. I had to help arrange for his nursing care, against the background of a difficult family situation, and deal with the local council which was involved in looking after him. I then had to make sure that the money was available to pay for all the different therapies which he needed, and obtain reports for the Court from different expert specialists”.
“I was delighted that we were able to negotiate a financial package which will make certain he is looked after for the rest of his life, and which will give him the best quality of life possible in the circumstances. We were able to buy a home and to specially adapt it for him. I was also delighted that the High Court agreed that this was the right financial settlement to meet my client’s needs”.
Andrea worked on the claim with top injury claim barrister Gerard McDermott QC who is based in London and Manchester. He said: “the claimant was fortunate to be represented by the impressive Andrea Hughes of Davis Gregory. Her management of this complex case which required legal and organisational skill as well as patience and tenacity was exemplary. Anyone requiring assistance in a complex injury claim would find they were very well served if they were fortunate enough to be represented by Andrea and this firm."
